Carpenters are the backbone of BC construction. From wood-frame residential projects to complex concrete formwork on commercial sites, skilled carpenters keep projects moving. The Carpenter trade in BC is a Red Seal designated trade. Quantus connects employers with journeymen carpenters and registered apprentices specializing in framing, finishing, formwork, and cabinetry across British Columbia.

Certification is voluntary for carpenters in BC — many invest in it anyway. Quantus will verify the certifications, insurance, and WorkSafeBC coverage a carpenter does hold at onboarding, so employers can tell verified credentials from claims. Note that voluntary status covers only the general trade — some specialized work can still carry its own separate, mandatory credential.
In British Columbia, certification for carpenters is voluntary — there's no legal requirement to hold a Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal to work as a carpenter. Many do hold certification anyway. Quantus will verify whichever credentials a tradesperson holds at onboarding, so employers can tell confirmed credentials from claims.

Is carpentry a Red Seal trade in BC?
Yes. Carpentry is a Red Seal designated trade in Canada. BC carpenters can obtain a provincial Certificate of Qualification and then challenge the Red Seal examination for national portability.
What is the difference between a framing carpenter and a finishing carpenter?
Framing carpenters build the structural skeleton of buildings — walls, floors, roofs, and stairs. Finishing carpenters handle visible woodwork: trim, doors, windows, built-ins, and cabinetry. Many journeymen do both; some specialize.
Do I need a licensed carpenter for renovation work?
BC doesn't require a licence to perform general carpentry work — carpentry is a voluntary certified trade. However, carpenters working on structural elements or pulling building permits must meet local building code requirements. Quantus will verify a carpenter's credentials and insurance at onboarding, so employers can hire on confirmed information.
