Certification is voluntary for machinists in BC — many invest in it anyway. Note that voluntary status covers only the general trade — some specialized work can still carry its own separate, mandatory credential.
In British Columbia, certification for machinists is voluntary — there's no legal requirement to hold a Certificate of Qualification or Red Seal to work as a machinist. Many do hold certification anyway. Quantus will verify whichever credentials a tradesperson holds at onboarding, so employers can tell confirmed credentials from claims.
